Mixed Media Journal Workshop

Last Saturday I had an amazing day at “Crafting Time”, teaching my Mixed Media Journal to a great group of ladies. It wasn’t so much altered art as craft bootcamp as we started the day with two bits of card and about 16 pieces of paper and ended the day with a coptic bound, waxed journal.

This is my project:

I have always devoured books – I don’t even dare look back at my Amazon purchases list for fear of a heart attack and always have a book with me as well as a cairn growing next to the bed of things just read and about to be read.

My love of Mixed Media is now coming full circle and I have a new passion for making books – the satisfaction of holding a sturdy, attractive book that you have sewn and bound yourself is amazing. If you check out Hilary’s comment on my last post I think it could be contagious!

We also produced 3 inner signatures, which gave us 12 pages to decorate – I said it was a bootcamp!

Here’s a quick glimpse of a couple of them:

We used lots of Distress ink, some MME glittered paper and the 7Gypsies Conservatory Papers 8″ Pad. We made up the pages and attached them to a hinge.

We also made our own collaged embellishments.  Sandi kindly let me borrow her camera to take a couple of photos of their finished journals – which are even better than mine – I’ll post those when I can.

All in all it was a fantastic experience that I hope to repeat soon.
